The vocation

The foundation, a nonprofit association seeks to be first and foremost a natural partner of the Ministry of Health of Mauritania. It will help to support a strategy for healthcare development in the country through the transfer of know-how and surgical technology.

Its fundamental field of action will be open and closed heart surgical interventions of adult and children. Interventions of vascular and thoracic operations will also be carried out.

Its fields of action are to educate preventive care and assist post surgery patient to achieve an effective recovery, but especially to generate funds to support local interventions or evacuation costs and the promotion of scientific research.

The cardiac surgery in Mauritania: a dream or reality?

On November 4, 2002, for the first time in Mauritania, an open heart surgery is performed in Nouakchott by the world Heart Foundation directed by Professor Thomas Pezzella, half a century after the first surgery in cardiac bypass had been successfully performed on a GIBBON in Minneapolis on the May 06, 1953.
